Lyme Disease Prevention

Even if you do not have Lyme Disease, you need to be aware that it is out there and how you can prevent it. You DO NOT want to catch this disease so if you can take a few steps to prevent it, please be smart and do so. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are outside (especially in moist, wooded areas):

1. Wear light colored clothes so that you can see the ticks easily.

2. Wear long sleeve shirts, pants and a hate with longer socks and solid shoes. Even when I worked out in the orchards in 98 degree weather, I had all of these on. I might have been sweating but when you have Lyme Disease, you take all precautions. This prevents a tick from getting attached to your skin and you can spot them a lot quicker to get rid of them.

3. Always keep bug spray on you when you are outside. Not only will you keep bugs away from you, ticks will not like you either!

4. Stay away from overgrown grasses and bushes if at all possible. Ticks love these areas! If you have to be in the woods, make sure you have all of the above because this is where ticks hide out. They love moisture and cool areas.

5. Always double check you entire body after coming in from outside, especially your head.

6. If you do find a tick, use tweezers to gently but firmly remove it.

7. If you have been bitten by a tick, swab the area with an antiseptic immediately. If you see a red bullseye or start experiencing symptoms, see a doctor immediately. The faster you treat Lyme Disease, the easier it is to completely rid it from your system. Do not let it go if you have any questions because the longer Lyme disease and co-infections are in your system, the more rapid the organisms spread.
this is an example of what the bullseye looks like. It can be smaller or bigger darker or lighter.
